Portugal is not just a destination. It is a deliberate choice.

The Asylum Project is focused on identifying and acquiring communal properties in Portugal as the foundation for a growing network of sanctuary spaces. Portugal offers a welcoming legal environment, strong infrastructure for international residents, and a community that has shown openness to people seeking safety and belonging.

What We Are Building

Our goal is to establish a permanent, no-cost landing zone: a place where people can arrive, rest, and begin to stabilize before taking their next steps. We call this the acclimation period.

This is not permanent housing. It is a soft place to land. A short-term stay that gives people time and breathing room while they explore their long-term options with the support of a compassionate, informed community.

Once properties are secured, we will renovate and prepare each space to be safe, accessible, and affirming. We are committed to building places where people feel seen, supported, and free.

What Comes Next

As we grow, we are building out additional support resources, including:

• Safety planning and mental health resources
• Language learning and cultural orientation guides
• Community and mutual aid network connections
• Legal aid and document preparation workshops
