The Asylum Project is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit founded in 2025 to provide a no-cost landing zone in the EU for U.S. citizens, especially LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and disabled individuals, fleeing persecution. Through grassroots fundraising and educational outreach, the organization is working to establish a sanctuary in Portugal and offer vital support for those seeking safety and freedom abroad.
How It Began
The Asylum Project is a grassroots effort helping persecuted U.S. citizens, especially LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and disabled individuals, relocate to safety abroad. With community support, we’re building a permanent no-cost landing zone in Portugal. For many, this isn’t just relocation, it’s survival.
Behind the Movement
The Asylum Project is led by a community of bold, justice-driven changemakers. Our Board of Directors holds the line on integrity and vision. Our Executive Team builds strategy rooted in lived experience. And our Staff and Volunteers show up every day to make safety real for those fleeing injustice.
