Our Mission

The Asylum Project was founded on a simple truth: some people cannot wait for policy to catch up to their safety.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to establish a permanent, no-cost landing zone in Portugal for U.S. citizens facing persecution. Our work centers LGBTQ+ individuals, BIPOC communities, and people with disabilities. These are people who face the greatest risks under systems that were never designed to protect them.

Our mission is to provide:

We work through grassroots fundraising, community education, and strategic partnerships. We are built on transparency, accountability, and the belief that solidarity is not charity.

For many of the people we serve, this is not just relocation. It is survival.

If you or someone you know needs support, or if you want to get involved, we would love to hear from you. Reach out at hello@theasylumproject.org.
