Our focus is on identifying and acquiring communal properties in welcoming regions, starting with Portugal. These spaces will serve as the foundation for a growing support network for LGBTQ+, BIPoC, and Disabled individuals seeking safety, healing, and community outside the United States.
Once properties are secured, we will begin renovations to ensure they are safe, accessible, and affirming. These homes will offer an initial landing space, what we call an acclimation period, where new arrivals can rest, stabilize, and explore long-term plans with the support of a compassionate community.
This short-term stay provides breathing room: a soft place to land while permanent housing and resettlement options are considered.
Essential records and identification for travel, resettlement, or asylum preparation.
Up-to-date information and practical guidance for navigating identity and travel restrictions.
Organizations offering legal guidance, representation, and policy updates for LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities.
Research relocation and travel requirements before making plans.
Verified information from the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) for those exploring asylum options.
We are curating more verified links and guides, including:
We maintain a weekly blog, Paths Forward, that is updated each Friday. Once a month, we feature five to seven countries that are currently friendly toward U.S. citizens who belong to the communities we support.
We also publish a thrice weekly newsletter, Signal Fires, which brings attention to U.S. policy updates, global immigration changes, community support options, and urgent bulletins regarding legislation that directly and immediately affects members of the communities we support.
Feel free to download any of our TAP-generated resources!
While The Asylum Project does not currently provide individual legal consultations or travel assistance, we are actively expanding our partner network.
