The Asylum Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2025 to provide a no-cost landing zone in Portugal for U.S. citizens seeking safety abroad. We center the people who face the greatest risks: LGBTQ+ individuals, BIPOC communities, and people with disabilities who are fleeing systemic persecution and injustice.
We are not a charity. We are a community. And we believe, without question, that safety is a human right.
In a short time, with the power of grassroots organizing and a growing community of supporters, we have launched a successful crowdfunding campaign and are now building toward something permanent: a safe house in Portugal where people can land, rest, and plan their next steps without fear.
